On the occasion of the 16th National Voters’ Day, celebrated annually on January 25th, the Election Commission of India honors officers who bring innovative changes and maintain transparency in the electoral process. This year, Mr. Vishwanath V.R. (KAS), the Assistant Commissioner of Bengaluru South Sub-Division, has been conferred with the prestigious State-Level ‘Best Electoral Practices Award’.

Key Reasons for the Award
The award recognizes the revolutionary steps taken by Mr. Vishwanath in his capacity as the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for the Anekal Assembly Constituency:
- Purification of Electoral Rolls: Anekal is a major industrial hub with a high migrant population. Mr. Vishwanath successfully streamlined the voter list by removing deceased voters’ names and identifying duplicate entries, ensuring a 100% error-free electoral roll.
- Boost in Youth Registration: To ensure the participation of new voters, he organized special awareness drives (SVEEP activities) in colleges, leading to record-breaking registration of citizens aged 18 and above.
- Technological Integration: He played a pivotal role in digitalizing the voter registration process by promoting Election Commission apps like the ‘Voter Helpline’ and ‘Saksham’ among the public.
- Transparent Election Management: During the Assembly elections, he was instrumental in the strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct. His oversight of checkpoints (check-posts) effectively prevented the illegal transport of cash and prohibited items.
